Review overset text before deletion, choose which stories to process and remove it in one Undo step.
The script checks stories in the active InDesign document. Before deletion, a dialog previews overset text beyond the final frame of each chain. Hidden characters appear as symbols that can be toggled off. You can deselect individual stories or cancel without changing the document. The interface follows the InDesign application language: German for German InDesign, English otherwise.
What it does
- Checks stories in the active document and previews overset text beyond the final frame of each text chain before deletion.
- Select or deselect individual stories and show or hide invisible-character symbols in the preview.
- Deletes the selected overset text. Chains with a locked final frame or a locked layer are skipped.
- Reports the number of deleted characters and processed stories, including skipped locked chains.
- Undo all changes in one step. The script removes content; it does not repair composition problems.
How to use it
- Open a copy of the InDesign document and decide which overset text can be discarded.
- Double-click UebersatzLoeschen.jsx in the Scripts panel. Review the preview, select the stories to process and choose Delete selection.
- Inspect the layout. If needed, Undo once before saving.
Installation
In InDesign, open Window → Utilities → Scripts. Right-click User → Reveal in Finder / Explorer. Copy the JSX file into that folder, then double-click it in the Scripts panel. Adobe InDesign is required and is not included. The interface follows the InDesign application language: German for German InDesign, English otherwise.
Before you start
The script deletes overflowing content, including text intended for later pages. It does not fix font, table or composition problems. Inaccessible or unsupported stories may be skipped. Other version and platform combinations remain unverified.
Try it on a copy of your document first.
