Words and complete phrases inside your shape. Editable in your layout.
Create word clouds for titles, posters and editorial illustrations right in InDesign. You supply the words and pick a closed vector shape. The script builds the cloud from individual text frames, and they stay editable.
What it does
- Creates a word cloud inside one selected closed vector shape directly in InDesign.
- Each input line stays together as a word or phrase; the result consists of editable text frames.
- Choose installed fonts, font styles and document colour swatches.
- Set the font-size range, angles and spacing, with optional repetition of entries.
- Places the grouped result on its own layer and reports entries that could not be placed.
- Up to 500 text frames per run. Another run adds a new cloud; undo first when replacing a variation.
How to use it
- Select one closed shape on a document page.
- Run WordCloud.jsx. Enter one word or phrase per line and choose fonts, colours and layout settings.
- Choose Create, read the placement report and inspect the editable cloud.
Installation
In InDesign, open Window → Utilities → Scripts. Right-click User → Reveal in Finder / Explorer. Copy the JSX file into that folder, then double-click it in the Scripts panel. Adobe InDesign is required and is not included. The interface follows the InDesign application language: German for German InDesign, English otherwise.
Before you start
Up to 500 text frames per run. Long phrases and small shapes can leave entries unplaced. Gaps may remain and large lists can take several minutes. Live corners are unsupported. Another run adds a new cloud; undo first to replace a variation.
Please try it on a copy of your document first. These captures show InDesign 2026 on macOS; other versions and Windows have not been verified for this shop release.
